Over time, you’ll forge deeper affinities with some of them and use them to bond with allies, enhancing your ability to channel their essence and inspire those who stand by your side to follow suit.

Shades are meant to be flexible and open to interpretation—they can mean different things to different people, and that’s totally fine. At its heart, playing is all about conversation and collaboration, where everyone agrees on how the game elements come together.

Affinities

A character has an affinity level with each shade. It represents how deeply the character aligns with the colour’s philosophy and how often they tap into its raw power.

Shades affinity functions in the game as an aura that subtly influences how the world reacts to your character. Think of it as a natural charisma, heightened observation, or intuition that operates in the background. During the game, the Adventure Guide will grant players advantages or opportunities without them needing to ask—it’s a quiet yet powerful force that enhances the narrative.

Each shade segment details how a growing affinity influences your character and their presence in the world. As you explore these sections, you’ll see how each shade shapes your interactions and the way you play. Both players and Adventure Guides should keep this influence in mind, as it reflects a character’s progression, adding depth to both their story and gameplay.

Shades of Red

Red is the shade of passion, freedom and boldness.

Philosophy

Red thrives on intense emotions, embracing love, anger, and joy as forces that drive action. To Red, suppressing emotions is to suppress the essence of life itself. At its core, red values the liberty to act without restraint, rejecting rules and conformity.

It believes that true freedom means staying authentic and carving your own path, inspiring others to break free from their own limitations and embrace individuality. For these reasons, red faces danger head-on, seeing risk as essential to life’s greatest moments. Boldness means acting with conviction, embracing challenges, and trusting in your instincts, even when the odds seem impossible.

Here are a few examples of Red actions:

Reckless charge — Charging headfirst into a dangerous fight without waiting for backup because the enemy insulted you or harmed someone you care about.

Red bonds are bold and unapologetic, with characters willing to fight, bleed, or defy the world to protect or challenge one another. Affinity

As your affinity with Red deepens, your passion ignites like a beacon, drawing others toward you. Your energy becomes contagious — people are inspired by your boldness and feel compelled to follow your lead. In crowds or battle, you naturally become the centre of attention, rallying allies to action and pulling focus from enemies.
